At ALK Positive, we are deeply honored to highlight the ongoing impact of the Dave Jasso Foundation and the incredible work being led by Chad David Jasso in memory of his father, Dave.
For more than two years, Chad and his family have transformed loss into lasting purpose – building community, raising awareness, and funding research that helps others living with ALK-positive lung cancer.
A proud Navy veteran, devoted family man, and Ace Hardware store owner, Dave faced ALK-positive cancer with the same quiet strength and determination that defined his life. Today, his legacy continues to inspire action through the Foundation created in his name.

Interview with Chad David Jasso

What inspired you to keep organizing these events in Dave’s honor, and how has that evolved over the past two years?
What Dave went through drives me to help make things better for others. No one should have to walk the path he did, and I’m proud to do what I can to support research and survivorship for those affected by ALK-positive cancer.
Our approach to fundraising has evolved as time has passed. In the months following Dave’s passing, he was top of mind for so many people, and the outpouring of love and support through donations meant a great deal to our family. Over time, we have shifted our focus toward building partnerships with local businesses and creating opportunities for the community to stay engaged. Round-up donations through Dave’s Ace Hardware stores have become a consistent source of support, and event-based fundraisers have helped us raise awareness while keeping Dave’s spirit present in everything we do. This year, we are excited to host our first large fundraising event for Lung Cancer Awareness Month, bringing people together to support the cause and enjoy some of Dave’s favorite things: BBQ and football.

What does it mean to you personally to keep this going and carry your dad’s legacy forward?
Doing this work feels like a way to honor everything he did. He was a great father and a good man, and his legacy is one that deserves to be carried forward.

How have your family and community come together through these efforts, and what moments have stood out most?
Following Dave’s example of strength has guided us. He never complained, never made excuses, and always moved forward with determination to accomplish whatever he set his mind to. We’ve tried to bring that same mindset to the fight against ALK-positive cancer.
What stands out most to me is how broad and diverse the support has been. We’ve seen contributions and encouragement from all parts of the community, including Dave’s former Navy flight colleagues, local businesses, schools, nonprofits, and members of his church. It has been a far-reaching effort that truly reflects the kind of person Dave was and the impact he had on so many people.

What message would you share with others who have lost someone to ALK-positive cancer about finding purpose, keeping their loved one’s memory alive, and making a difference?
The nature of ALK-positive cancer, with no known cause, can make it feel senseless. I would encourage anyone who has faced a similar loss not to dwell on the unfairness of their passing, but instead to focus on the purpose and meaning in the life that was lived. Carry forward their passions. Tell their stories. Make their favorite meal. Play music that reminds you of them. Visit the places they cherished. Laugh at their jokes. Spend time with the people they cared about. Do the things you know would have made them proud. Keep their spirit close by living in the ways they taught you to. Their life had meaning because they were meaningful to you.

Continuing Dave’s Legacy

Through local partnerships, community events, and ongoing advocacy, the Dave Jasso Foundation continues to fundraise for ALK Positive and bring awareness to lung cancer research. Their upcoming Lung Cancer Awareness Month BBQ Fundraiser celebrates everything Dave loved – good food, football, and bringing people together for a cause that matters.
At ALK Positive, we are profoundly grateful for the Jasso family’s ongoing partnership and unwavering dedication. Their efforts not only honor Dave’s memory but also help advance the research and hope that every ALK-positive family deserves.
Thank you, Chad David Jasso and the Dave Jasso Foundation, for turning love into action and grief into hope. Your work continues to inspire us all.
