MEET YOUR STAFF: Introducing Katie Delaney, Philanthropy Operations Manager at ALK Positive, Inc.

Tell us a little about yourself - your personal and professional background - and what inspires you about your work in philanthropy and development.

With over a decade of entrepreneurship and management experience, I’ve learned one enduring truth: obstacles become opportunities when met with hard work and dedication. Believing that anything is possible with perseverance and self-belief, I’ve discovered that the greatest gift is empowering others to believe in themselves as well.

What inspires my philanthropic work is the opportunity to build meaningful connections and help remove barriers, allowing others to reach their goals and turn dreams into reality is my way of making a lasting difference.

2.      What inspired you to join ALK Positive, Inc. and what are your main duties in your role as Philanthropy Operations Manager?

As someone who has had the need to self-advocate and advocate for my loved ones in their health, I was truly inspired by the ALK Positive community not only for their strength and resilience, but the tangible change they have made in each other’s lives and the lives of those diagnosed with ALK-positive cancers for years to come. My appreciation for self-thinkers and the ones who don’t give up has only grown since joining this organization as Philanthropy Manager. As I work with executive leadership and the board of directors, my focus is to advance philanthropic campaigns and initiatives that include donor acquisition, stewardship and communications.

3.        What is the most important lesson you've learned in your career?

One of the most important lessons I’ve learned in my career is the value of adaptability and leading with compassion. Whether managing my own businesses, coordinating programs, or now working in philanthropy, I’ve found that being open to change and ready to learn from every experience is essential. It’s in those moments when we step outside our comfort zones that real growth happens, and I strive to bring that mindset to every role I take on.

 4.        What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

As a big fan of the arts, I love immersing myself in local culture, from exploring farmers’ markets to attending art shows and creating my own pottery and paintings. Riding my motorcycle or taking scenic drives is my favorite way to unwind, but when I’m not creating or exploring, you’ll find me at home, laughing and dancing in the kitchen with my wife and our two dogs and three cats.

5.        What are you most passionate and motivated about? (causes, hobbies, interests etc.)

I am deeply passionate about inclusivity and making sure every voice in the room is heard. I am motivated by the celebrations, big or small, that come along the way that allow you to stop and be grateful for. I’m committed to continually learning and growing with ALK Positive to ensure that ALK-positive patients are supported, cared for, and always top of mind.
